About the event
World Refugee Day - Book Circle Featuring Miss Me Forever by Eugene Cross Thursday, June 20th at 5 PM
Join Laura Reeck, Director of Refugee Services at the Multicultural Community Resource Center, for a discussion of Eugene Cross's book Miss me Forever.
The UN designated World Refugee Day in 2001, marking the 50th anniversary of The 1951 Refugee Convention. It is an international day to recognize and raise awareness of refugees worldwide, today numbering more than 35 million persons, only 1% of whom are resettled each year.
This year, enter into the world of refugees in Erie, PA on World Refugee Day through a recently-published novel by Erie native Eugene Cross. Miss me Forever follows Tulsi Gurung as he navigates a new life and begins to imagine a future for himself. At the same time as he forges ahead, sometimes haltingly, Tulsi is on a quest to find his sister from whom he has been separated since leaving his refugee camp in Nepal. In turns dark and dramatic, lyrical and searching, Miss me Forever shows the complexity of starting over in new place while leaving a place for the past in one’s heart and mind.
